OUR MISSION

The Hand Heart + Soul Project cultivates wellness through access to nutrient dense foods, holistic education, and advocacy.

Our Founders & Leadership

The Hand, Heart, and Soul Project (HHSP) was co-founded in 2018 by Toyin Okunoren, MS, RD, MHA, a highly respected registered dietitian, and public health leader, alongside her daughter, Wande Okunoren-Meadows, a dedicated advocate for early childhood education, food justice, and community development. Toyin Okunoren brings decades of expertise in nutrition, public health, and healthcare administration. Throughout their career, they have worked at the intersection of food and wellness ensuring that individuals have access to the resources they need to lead healthy lives. While Toyin leads with experience in clinical nutrition and program development, Wande leads with experience in policy aimed at addressing systems change in food access and early education. ï»¿

OUR HISTORY

The Hand, Heart, and Soul Project was birthed from organic, genuine adoration for the Clayton Community, with Little Ones Learning Center as the incubator. The center was a model site providing high quality care for young learners while providing them access to a nutritious, farm-to-table diet. Founded as a 501 c3 in 2018, the Hand, Heart, and Soul Project does three things:

We provide children and families access to nutrient dense foods. We coordinate farm stands and food distribution supplying produce from local Georgia farmers to community members.

We develop holistic health and wellness education programs that ensure the wellbeing of the children of Clayton county and their caregivers. We coach and model on how to grow, cook, and eat healthy food. We use hands-on, agriculture based learning to make curriculum standards come alive.

We serve as expert ambassadors on local, state and national platforms to make effective and fundamental policy changes.

Hand Heart and Soul Project’s call is to provide nutrient-dense food and support community members with the skills and tools to grow their own food while employing policy, system, and environmental changes throughout communities. We also work in partnership with early childhood programs, schools, city and county government, and other partners to strengthen systems, drive community health outcomes, and improve education outcomes.
